Wayne Hawthorne receives GRDC Seed of Light award (South, 3 March 2010)

One of Australia’s most recognised authorities on pulse agronomy has been recognised for his efforts and achievements in communicating the outcomes of research.

Wayne Hawthorne, a senior Pulse Crop Development Manager with Pulse Australia, has been presented with the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Seed of Light award.

Driving Agronomy - No-Till Adoption in Australia

A comprehensive survey of no-till adoption amongst Australian grain growers has found between 70 and 90 percent of farmers use no-till practices on their farms, to some extent. The survey looks at what’s driving the use of no-till and also examines why farmers in some districts have been slow to adopt no-till practices. On this program we also ask what could potentially threaten the use of no-till and drive farmers back to more cultivation. Click here to listen.

Integrated Weed Management (IWM) one-day workshop for growers - Pinnaroo

These 1-day workshops are the grower version of the much acclaimed practical 2-day adviser IWM workshop. These workshops will assist grain growers to better plan and manage a weed control program to manage herbicide resistance. A 1-day workshop on the practical implementation of IWM will assist growers to better identify and manage the cropping weed challenges they face. This course is targeted specifically to broad acre grain growers and mixed crop / livestock producers. Key learning areas include: . Herbicide resistance . Weed seed bank dynamics . IWM tactics - their impact and use . Agronomy and crop rotation in weed management . Integrating a diverse range of weed management tactics into the farming system With support from the GRDC, the cost per grower is only $50 and this includes a 256 page colour weed management manual, course notes, morning and afternoon tea and lunch. There is a maximum of 20 participants per course so book early to avoid disappointment.
