Lupins belong to a diverse genus of the legume family that is characterised by long flowering spikes with a range of different colours. Lupins are members of the legume family (subfamily Papilioniodeae) containing both herbaceous annual and shrubby perennial types with attractive tall flowers.

Lupin is the largest pulse crop grown in Australia, having a strong domestic as well as export market. There are two types of lupin grown in Australia – narrow-leaf lupin and
albus lupin – which have different growth requirements, markets and end-uses.
