Medics need medication

Researchers in three States have embarked on a major GRDC-supported project to improve medic-based pastures, whose poor performance threatens the sustainability of low rainfall wheat production. Bill Bellotti of the University of Adelaide said medics were suffering from low soil nitrogen levels, high root disease carry-over and weed problems in the following cereal crop. The project will be studying soil composition, fungal diseases, herbicide residues and the effectiveness of rhizobia.
