The Bread Research Institute carries out additional quality tests on wheats proposed for registration in NSW.
When tested against Osprey at six southern NSW sites, the Sydney University wheat Sunbri proved similar in quality to Osprey, but stronger and with a longer mixing time. Protein at least matched Osprey. Sunbri was subsequently accepted into the Hard class in silo groups 4 and 5 of southern NSW.
SUN89D, M3345 and Mexican Sunbird were test baked as flat, steamed and pan breads. Unfortunately, SUN89D and M3345 were sticky at low protein contents.
