The innovative Newdegate Crop Improvement Group from southeastern Western Australia wanted more local information to deal with some of its agricultural problems. With the advent of new styles of on-farm testing, the group is now trialing a simple examination of wheat varieties.
The Newdegate Group has been supported by growers through the GRDC. The group, led by local private consultant Graham Laslett, is virtually self-supporting.
Mr Laslett says on-farm testing provides the opportunity for farmers to gather information about new agricultural techniques in their own area, or on their own farms, rather than try to adapt information from other areas or other sets of conditions.
