Cotton and grains have mutual concerns — among them, heliothis, disease, weeds and spray technology. GRDC financial investments in these areas this year include:
- $896,000 on a national program of heliothis research, almost entirely devoted to the northern region
- $4 million nationally, $625,000 in the northern region devoted to weed research
- $350,000 on mice control research.
A recent two-day seminar at Dalby, jointly sponsored by the GRDC and the Cotton Research and Development Corporation, developed a list of recommendations for possible research cooperation.
In addition to the areas noted above, researchers from both fields said mutual benefit could be gained from cooperation in information technology, soil biological health, precision farming and yield mapping, and best management practice.
