Central Queensland Sustainable Farming Systems Project by Maria Taylor

Central Queensland

  • GRPC investment: farming systems projects — $670,000 annually for 5 years — started 1997
  • Environmental challenges: 80 per cent summer rainfall, fertility decline, soil erosion, salinity and sodicity
  • Solutions: Nitrogen replacement principally phase legume technology, opportunity crops, controlled traffic and zero-till, integrated weed management, greater water-use efficiency.
