Barley industry authorities from across the globe will be in Canberra for the 10th Australian Barley Technical Symposium to be held on 16-20 September.
The symposium, supported by growers and the Federal Government through the GRDC, will feature the latest information on:
- customers’ grain quality requirements, with speakers from Japan and China, two of our major markets
- research opportunities and research progress through genetic modification and other plant breeding processes
- new variety releases
- brewing industry quality requirements including new overseas and local information on the evaluation of barley lines for possible release as commercial malting varieties
- a specific session on how globalisation and deregulation are likely to impact on the Australian barley industry and ways to meet these challenges.
Chairperson of the organising committee, Barbara Read said that, as well as the keynote presentations from leading overseas and Australian speakers, there would be a large number of contributed papers and posters.
