Australian wheat breeders now have at their disposal consolidated testing techniques for early identification of noodle quality in new crossbreds.
The work by Helen Allen of Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute aims to help growers quickly adopt the latest developments in wheat breeding to maintain their pre-eminent position in competitive specialised export markets.
Since the first tests for Udon quality in the early 1990s, subsequent programs have used different methods to test quality. They have now been consolidated following evaluations at a workshop at AWB’s Agrifood Technology.
