Grains Research and Development Corporation Training awards

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) invests in research and development on behalf of the Australian grain industry and the Federal Government.

The GRDC has a range of awards aimed at developing and maintaining the skills and information bases required to achieve its objectives. These awards continue to provide selected growers, researchers and others directly involved in the Australian grains industry with opportunities for professional development.

The GRDC invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following Training Awards which apply for 2002.

Undergraduate Honours Scholarships

Ten awards, each of $6,000, are available annually for students undertaking fulltime study at a recognised tertiary institution, who demonstrate an excellent record of undergraduate achievement and a program of research directed at strategic priorities in the Australian grains industry.

Grains Industry Research Scholarships

Several awards are available to students of excellence proceeding to postgraduate study in a field relevant to the work of the GRDC. The award will normally be for three years with an annual tax-free stipend of $25,000. An additional amount of up to $5,000 may be available for operating expenses.

Postdoctoral Fellowships

Postdoctoral Fellowships will be funded for a period of up to three years and are intended to support candidates of exceptional calibre. These awards are offered in offered in the following categories:

  1. available at Australian institutions to excellent researchers from overseas who can contribute significantly to Australian grains research. The stipend will be within the vicinity of $55,000 per annum, with on-costs and a provision for fare and removal costs to the Australian institution as required.
  2. available for excellent Australian postgraduate researchers to undertake grains research either in Australia or overseas, or a mixture of the two, with a similar level of stipend and an allowance for operating costs and for travel and other costs, as necessary.

Senior Fellowships

Available to senior R&D personnel seeking to enhance their experience and potential to contribute to the work of the GRDC at an institution in Australia or overseas. Support may be for up to 12 months.

Visiting Fellowships

Available to overseas researchers who are able to enhance programs supported by the GRDC. Activity may occur at an Australian host institution or company. Support may be for up to 12 months.

In-Service Training

Available to younger scientists, technical staff and others engaged in work relevant to GRDC objectives who may not be eligible for other forms of support. Funding will be considered for travel, secondment or interchange between institutions and will be available for a maximum of six months.

Industry Development Awards

Awards are available to growers, processors and others in the grains industry not engaged in R&D activities who are seeking to enhance their experience and potential to contribute to the work of the GRDC. The awards may be for study tours within Australia or overseas, or for other purposes approved by the GRDC. Support may be for up to six months.

Closing date for all training award applications is 26 October 2001. All referees’ reports must also be received in the GRDC office by this closing date.
