A conference organised by the Australian Nuffield Farming Scholars Association (ANFSA), will showcase some of Australia"s leading farmers and their success stories.
The inaugural Nuffield Conference, to be held in Canberra on 7 October, will focus on solutions to problems affecting the Australian farming sector; it will allow delegates to pick the brains of these outstanding individuals for their approaches and practical techniques.
ANFSA chief executive officer Bryan Clark says the Nuffield Conference would welcome delegates including past and current Nuffield scholars, as well as other farmers, government and industry representatives.
The Australian Nuffield Farming Scholars Association provides a select group of young Australian farmers with scholarships to travel internationally to expand their personal horizons while exploring agricultural issues and opportunities in a global context.
The scholarship is focused on developing the practical, managerial and commercial capacities of the scholar to enable them to be better farmers and to make a significant contribution to the future of Australian agriculture.
Mr Clark says it was decided to convene the conference to take advantage of the depth of knowledge, talent and network of the group.
“This one-day conference, and dinner, will be held the day prior to the annual new scholar presentation event. The conference will feature innovators and leaders in agriculture, some of whom are Nuffield scholars, and others who have excelled in their field of choice,” he says.
“The aim of this 2004 Nuffield Conference is to highlight local farmers who have implemented successful solutions in their businesses - whether it be linked with water usage, drought prevention, new scientific or mechanical technology or through genetics. We will have presenters who, in essence, "walk the talk".”
The conference is being supported by organisations including Incitec Pivot, Rabobank, Bayer CropScience, Monsanto, AWI Ltd and Meat & Livestock Australia. Mr Clark says the conference would also welcome other sponsors.
