FERTCARE® is a national training and accreditation program available
to all providers of fertiliser advice (agribusiness and independent consultants)
as well as the fertiliser supply industry, including sales, transport,
storage and application.
FERTCARE is designed to lift the skills and knowledge of everyone involved,
and to assist in optimising some of the key aspects of fertiliser use:
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister, Peter McGauran, summed
up the role of FERTCARE at the recent launch of the program in Canberra.
"In coming years, FERTCARE accreditation and the licensed use of
the FERTCARE logo will be a trusted and respected sign of excellence in
environmental management ... expert, up-to-date and independently audited

will reduce wastage and improve yields."
FERTCARE was developed with the support of the Australian Government
Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Department of
the Environment and Heritage. It is based on a set of nationally endorsed
The Fertiliser Industry Federation of Australia (FIFA) and the Australian
Fertiliser Services Association (AFSA) manage the FERTCARE program.
Accreditation of advisers under FERTCARE is based to a large extent on
independent assessment of an adviser"s recommendations against the competency
standards, but also involves their attendance at a training program to
gain new skills in fertiliser environmental risk assessment.
