With the northern grains industry facing fresh challenges to farm productivity and profitability each year, growers are being urged to keep abreast of the latest research and development `answers’ by participating in the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) 2015 Grains Research Updates.
Soil sodicity, improving yield and profit in northern farming systems, herbicide resistance management, making better business decisions and the effective use of social media will be among the many topics addressed at the upcoming Updates.
Coonabarabran will host a two day update on February 25 and 26 at the Town Hall; a grower update will be held at Warren Services Club on February 27; Goondiwindi will host a two day update on March 3 and 4 at the Goondiwindi Community Centre; and a grower update will be held at the Talwood Community Centre on March 5.
The Grains Research Updates are premiere events in the northern grains industry calendar, bringing together some of Australia’s leading grain research scientists, agronomists, consultants and growers.
Update coordinator John Cameron said the topics were selected by local planning committees and were regionally relevant, credible and science-based new information, practical and ready for on farm adoption with the potential to make a tangible difference to growers’ bottom lines.
“It’s important that we continue to lift the bar on production and productivity in the northern grains industry and the GRDC is investing millions of dollars annually to ensure that happens,” he said.
“It is just as important to communicate with the wider farming community about the progress and outcomes of research projects that tackle productivity constraints and break new ground in agricultural technology.
“The Updates provide an ideal forum for learning, sharing ideas and networking, all of which are precursors to successful and effective change.”
