Practical advice for growers on how they can improve their financial management will be the focus of the Grains Research and Development (GRDC) Farm Business Update in Temora this week.
The update will be held on Thursday, March 2 at the Temora Ex-Services Memorial Club and will feature expert speakers delivering tips and tactics for growers to assist them making financial decisions to improve their farm businesses.
GRDC Grower Services Manager – North Sharon O’Keeffe said the Farm Business Updates were designed to bring quality advice to growers and provide them with the skills to make on-farm changes that lifted productivity and profitability.
“These updates play a vital role keeping growers informed of the latest practical tools, advice, information and innovation allowing them to develop their skills and knowledge,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“The grains industry is constantly changing in terms of climate variability, technology and market conditions, so it is critical growers have up-to-date knowledge to make informed decisions and adopt practice changes that bring cost efficiencies, promote sustainability and grow productivity.”
Among the Farm Business Update presenters at Temora are ORM consultant Andrew Rice and Peter Lott from Lott Rural Consulting, who will analyse financial data from local farms and referencing these against key profit drivers to identify the characteristics of top performers.
What makes a sound decision maker? This question will be answered by Jeanette Long from Ag Consulting Co, who will focus on how growers can make more informed, considered decisions about farm finances.
Delta Ag consultant David Crowley will discuss the challenges for growers in deciding their enterprise mix for 2017, when livestock prices are high and cereal commodity prices are low.
Options for funding farm land expansion will be the focus of a presentation by Richard Heath from the Australian Farm Institute (AFI). Mr Heath will present the latest findings from an AFI report that reviewed the options for growers to reduce reliance on debt funding for farm expansion.
The update will run from 9am until 1pm. Cost is $30 per person and $20 for the second person from the same business. This includes morning tea, lunch and a booklet. To register or for more information go to the GRDC Website.
