Growers to help identify GRDC research priorities

Author: Toni Somes

Grain growers and agronomists in southern New South Wales are being invited to a series of regional meetings to help the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) identify and prioritise research to overcome on-farm issues effecting profitability and productivity.

The meetings have been initiated by the GRDC to provide an opportunity for industry stakeholders to discuss and present the agronomic issues, challenges, constraints to, and opportunities for grain production from a regional level.

GRDC Grower Services Manager North Sharon O’Keeffe said the open forums were designed to ensure ongoing GRDC research investment was targeted towards growers’ priority issues, to enable the organisation to continue to deliver valuable advances and developments in grains production.

“This format is a pilot, specifically targeted at southern NSW in response to changes in the GRDC regional boundaries and our move to a continual investment process,” Ms O’Keeffe said.

“Input and advice from regional growers and agronomists is invaluable in terms of assisting the GRDC to identify and prioritise our research focus for southern NSW and ensure a sustainable and enduring grains sector.”
