A fire-affected paddock at Mallala in SA’s Lower North.
A fire recovery manual is now available on the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) website to assist farmers in South Australia’s Lower North cropping region as they deal with the aftermath of last year’s Pinery bushfire. The Technical Resource Manual for Farm Fire Recovery was developed by the SA Research and Development Institute (SARDI) in response to the Lower Eyre Peninsula “Black Tuesday” fire in January 2005.
The manual is designed to be a resource for farmers, land managers, advisors and Government agencies to assist in the fire recovery process at the farm level. Information is provided on the key management issues that farmers will need to address over the months following a fire, to return their paddocks to full production.
More information on the treatment of fire-affected cropping land is also available in resources provided by Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA)-SARDI via http://pir.sa.gov.au/emergency_management.
