A one-stop-shop source of information about break crop research in Western Australia is now available online.
The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Break Crop Research Hot Topic includes links to useful resources that can help guide grain growers making crop variety and rotational decisions for 2015.
Available at www.grdc.com.au/BreakCropResearch-West, the Hot Topic outlines how decisions relating to break crop choice include crop type and whether to harvest for grain or forage, or to use as brown manure.
Another important choice is where in the rotation to include the break crop, as this can influence future supplies of soil water and nitrogen.
Research into more profitable break crops is a high priority for the GRDC. WA projects supported by the GRDC and its research stakeholders include ‘Putting the Focus on Profitable Break Crops and Pasture Sequences in WA’ and ‘Tactical break crop agronomy in WA’.
