Western Australian grain growers and industry personnel passionate about boosting grower profitability have the opportunity to help guide the grains industry’s research and development activities.
The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has called for applications for positions on its western regional panel.
Successful applicants will take up the part-time positions from September 1, 2015 and appointments will initially be for two years.
GRDC western regional panel chairman Peter Roberts said the GRDC’s regional panels represented Australia’s principal cropping zones and appointment of members to the panels was considered as crucial to the GRDC’s success.
“Panel members’ combined skills and experience provide the GRDC board with a valuable network to draw out local, regional and national grains industry issues,” he said.
“The panels work with GRDC management to develop and prioritise the GRDC’s research, development and extension (RD&E) investment portfolio at a local, regional and national level.
“Panel members are also ambassadors for the GRDC, promoting its regional investments.”
Each panel is comprised of grain growers, agribusiness practitioners, scientists and the GRDC’s executive managers, with provision for other industry experts to participate as appropriate.
“Applications are invited from candidates with skills and experience including extensive knowledge of the Australian grains industry and excellent communication skills,” Mr Roberts said.
Applications for western regional panel positions are open until Tuesday, June 9, 2015.
The GRDC is one of the world’s leading grains research organisations, responsible for planning, investing in and overseeing RD&E to deliver improvements in production, sustainability and profitability across the Australian grains industry.
The current GRDC western regional panel comprises chairman Peter Roberts, Dunn Rock; deputy chairman Mike Ewing, Perth; John Even, Calingiri; Susan Hall, Perth; Paul Kelly, Mingenew; Bill Ryan, Perth; Shauna Stone, Quairading; Chris Wilkins, Badgingarra; Darrin Lee, Mingenew; Gemma Walker, Munglinup; and GRDC research programs executive manager Brondwen MacLean.
