GRDC employees vote 'Yes' for new Enterprise Agreement

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has achieved a new three-year Enterprise Agreement following an overwhelming ‘Yes’ vote by employees.

A corporate Commonwealth entity, the GRDC is one the 15 rural RDCs that drive innovation which enhances the profitability and competitiveness of Australia’s agricultural sector.

Acting Managing Director Steve Thomas says the GRDC was able to put a worthwhile offer to staff within the parameters of the current enterprise bargaining framework.

“We had 88 percent participation in the ballot, with 90 percent voting in favour of accepting the new Agreement,” Mr Thomas said.

“The GRDC is a specialist organisation employing a range of highly qualified staff across Australia, so it was critical to uphold our reasonable terms and conditions so that we continue to attract high-calibre employees and remunerate them accordingly.

“The bargaining process was carried out professionally and efficiently, with all parties cognisant that the timing of the last Federal election interrupted the previous bargaining round in 2013. We are confident that this Agreement can be finalised and executed swiftly.

“Our people are passionate about their roles, the expertise they bring to the Corporation and the value that GRDC creates for Australian grain growers.

“With a new Agreement in place, combined with our ongoing organisational and strategic transformation, we are ensuring that the GRDC has the capacity to continue its important role in Australian science and agriculture,” Mr Thomas said.
