The Crawford Fund 2018 Annual Conference - RESHAPING AGRICULTURE FOR BETTER NUTRITION – The Agriculture, Food, Nutrition, Health Nexus
RESHAPING AGRICULTURE FOR BETTER NUTRITION – The Agriculture, Food,
Nutrition, Health Nexus
Agricultural scientists have long highlighted the plight of the world’s hungry, with their work resulting in yield increases that have fed billions. However, there is increasingly a focus on not just producing more, but producing better, with less. The imperative to reshape agriculture to meet the competing nutritional needs of the 815 million hungry, the almost 2 billion obese, and the finite resources of our environment will be in the spotlight at our upcoming annual conference.
The 2018 Crawford Fund Annual Conference is being held on 13 and 14 August 2018 in Canberra, and it features eminent international and Australian speakers who will address how we can feed the world’s increasing population with a nourishing diet that promotes good health and at the same time minimises further environmental impact.
This year’s program includes Dr Alessandro Demaio, CEO of the Eat Foundation and perhaps better known in Australia as co-host of the ABC television show Ask the Doctor; Rebecca Boustead, Head of Corporate Communications, Government Relations and Public Affairs, Kellogg Asia Pacific; Dr Jessica Fanzo, Co-chair of the Global Nutrition Report from Johns Hopkins, and the UN FAO; Professor Glenn Denning from the Earth Institute and Colombia University; Dr Marco Wopereis, Director General of the World Vegetable Center; Prof Andrew Campbell, CEO, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, and a range of researchers presenting case studies of impact for nutrition security in PNG, Timor Leste, East Africa and Bangladesh.
