GRDC Grower Forum – Hadspen
Tasmanian growers and advisors are invited to attend this Grower Forum and lunch, free of charge, to contribute to future GRDC RD&E, hear from Professor Meixue Zhou on waterlogging-tolerant barley and be updated on relevant GRDC research.
The forum will gather grass roots input into local GRDC investments and give you the opportunity to talk to GRDC representatives and researchers working on GRDC projects.
The forum will be led by GRDC Grower Relations Managers Randall Wilksch and Tom Blake, who will provide insights into current research and extension projects.
A facilitated workshop will identify factors impacting farm productivity and profitability in Tasmania and review opportunities for local GRDC research, development and extension.
Participants will also get an update on a GRDC funded project to tackle waterlogging in barley crops, which is a problem for one in every five seasons in the high rainfall zone and cuts yields by about 20 per cent.
The project is led by Professor Meixue Zhou, from the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) and the University of Tasmania, who will outline how the project aims to breed a barley variety that is tolerant of waterlogging, utilising a gene discovered in a wild-type barley
PLEASE NOTE
All growers, advisers and industry representatives are welcome. Note that registration is essential to ensure a COVID-safe event.
