Event Name
Disease identification and management workshop – Wagga Wagga
Start Date

Duration
1 day and 6 hours
Description

Which disease is it? Is it physiological spotting or something else? (Over 20% of suspected diseased cereal samples sent to NSW DPIRD pathologists in 2024 were NOT diseases!) Is it economic to spray and if yes, with what and when? Could I have avoided the problem through management? These are just some of the issues and questions that will be answered in the GRDC Disease Identification & Management Workshops.

Agronomists and grain growers are invited to participate in a 2-day GRDC supported workshop on identifying and managing soil and foliar diseases of cereal and other field crops. Book in early, as these workshops are limited in numbers. Cost is $165 (GST inclusive).

These 'small group' workshops cover:

1. Foliar diseases

  • Identification of wheat, barley, canola and winter pulse foliar diseases
  • Strategies for managing foliar diseases in wheat, barley, winter pulses and canola, including topics such as genetics and disease risk, key timings , which fungicides, and pre-emptive management to mitigate risk.

2. Soil borne diseases and nematodes

  • Crop impact and inoculum load of soil borne diseases and nematodes in regional cropping systems
  • Identification of risk and use of Predicta® B tests

John Cameron, workshop facilitator, said, "these workshops bring together key northern region pathologists to help growers and agronomists identify what diseases are present and understand best economic management approaches."
