Mr James Clark has been re-appointed as the Chair of the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Northern Regional Panel until 30 June 2013.

In announcing the re-appointment, GRDC Chairman Mr Keith Perrett said Mr Clark’s experience in driving the development of the northern region research, development and extension discussion paper was invaluable to the industry.

“I’m pleased to announce that James has been re-appointed to Chair GRDC’s Northern Regional Panel. He has worked to increase Northern Regional Panel engagement with the industry to ensure growers benefit from well targeted, efficient research programs that deliver the outcomes growers want,” Mr Perrett said.

“The GRDC Northern Panel has worked hard to consult with grain growers throughout the region to get clear on the priorities growers want addressed to increase their productivity, but more importantly, put money in the bank,” he said.

Mr Clark said today that he is happy to be re-appointed as Panel Chair and is looking forward to driving the implementation of the National RD&E Strategy developed under the Primary Industries Steering Committee process.

“It’s important to maintain research capability and capacity in the northern region to ensure we can deliver effective research outcomes throughout the region,” Mr Clark said.

“The Panel is a team of committed people working in support of the grains industry in the northern region,” Mr Clark said. “We’ve still got some work to do to ensure growers receive the best bang for their investment, to address grower priorities and to make sure research outcomes are delivered to growers on the ground.”

“I really enjoy engaging with grain growers who treat the industry as a business.

Our focus as a Panel is to ensure GRDC’s investment in RD&E focuses on reducing production limitations and maximising profitability, sustainability and productivity.”

James lives in the Hunter Valley of NSW and brings his extensive experience in both dryland and irrigated farming in the North Star area of northern NSW, and also his skills in business development, investment and irrigation design to the panel. James was a chair of the grains research, development and extension committee of NSW Farmers, and was a longstanding member of the north-east NSW Regional Advisory Committee.

The GRDC is a statutory authority established to plan and invest in RD&E for the Australian grains industry. Its primary objective is to support effective competition by Australian grain growers in global grain markets, through enhanced profitability and sustainability.
