Northern region grain growers have welcomed the release of a new high yielding, early faba bean with improved quality and disease resistance.

James Clark, Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) northern panel chair says PBA WardaPBR logo is expected to yield five to seven per cent above recently released varieties.

Mr Clark says PBA WardaPBR logo is the result of a targeted, GRDC-funded pulse breeding program which has produced an early flowering and maturing faba bean adapted to northern NSW and southern Queensland growing conditions.

“It is moderately resistant (MR-R) to rust, has a high level of tolerance to bean leafroll virus (BLRV) and produces bigger seed that is more uniform than DozaPBR logo,” Mr Clark said.
