Do it right, do it once – phosphine fumigation
Author: Rachel Bowman | Date: 28 May 2013
Phosphine remains the single-most relied upon fumigant to control stored grain pests in Australian grain production systems, but continued misuse is resulting in poor insect control and developing resistance in key pest species.
The advice from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is “Do it right — do it once” and it has launched a booklet to provide some insights into the best methods to achieve reliable results.
Fumigating with Phosphine, other fumigants and controlled atmospheres covers topics such as pressure testing, silo safety and the application of both phosphine and other options.
The booklet is available from www.storedgrain.com.au, the GRDC’s grain storage information hub.
It’s also available from the GRDC website at www.grdc.com.au/GRDC-Booklet-FumigatingWithPhosphine or free (plus postage and handling) through Ground Cover Direct, freephone 1800 11 00 44 or email email@example.com
