Plan for profit in 2014: add the GRDC Updates to the diary

Grain growers looking to bolster their profits in 2014 should start planning now by adding the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Updates to their diary.
The latest R&D work aimed at bolstering crop performance, farm productivity and profitability throughout Australia’s northern cropping region will be presented to advisors and growers in early 2014 at a series of Updates to be held throughout northern NSW and southern Queensland.
Coonabarabran will host an advisor update on February 26 and 27 at the Town Hall; a grower update will be held at Nyngan Bowling Club on February 28; Goondiwindi will host an advisor update on March 4 and 5 at the Goondiwindi Community Centre; and a grower update will be held at the Mungindi Community Hall on March 6.
Update coordinator John Cameron, ICAN Rural, said the updates would address the latest information needed to drive on-farm adoption on key topics such as bridging the yield gap between environmentally achievable yields versus actual yields, the effective use of pre-emergent cereal herbicides, herbicide resistance and weed management, crop nutrition, disease, varietal selection and soil water management.
“The Updates are premiere events in the grains industry calendar and enable researchers, agronomists, consultants and growers to network, share ideas and keep abreast of cutting-edge research,” Mr Cameron said.
With attendance being limited and last year’s Goondiwindi Update booking out in advance, interested participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible to secure their place.
