Moree to host Better Sunflowers workshop

Sunflower growers, agronomists and advisors will have the opportunity to hear from some of Australia’s leading crop management specialists next month during a one-day Better Sunflowers workshop in Moree.
The workshop will be held on Tuesday, August 12 from 8am to 5pm at the Town and Country Club in Frome St, Moree and is the only one being scheduled for NSW this year.
Jointly presented by the Australian Sunflower Association (ASA) and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), the day will incorporate a blend of theory, demonstrations and hands-on activities specifically tailored for the region.
The workshop will equip participants with the latest industry information on plant growth and development, agronomy practices and irrigation, insect, weed and disease management, harvest, storage and marketing.
The speaker line-up includes renowned industry experts international plant breeder Alan Scott; Leader Northern Dryland Cropping Systems, NSW DPI, Tamworth and GRDC northern panel member Loretta Serafin; weed consultant specialist Vikki Osten; Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) Principal Entomologist & Team Leader (Grains Lead) Dr Melina Miles; DAFF sunflower pathology researcher Sue Thompson; ASA chair Kevin Charlesworth; DAFF Senior Development Agronomist (Postharvest Grain Protection) Philip Burrill; and Qld Agricultural Merchants executive officer Chris Bazley.
