Northern growers to benefit from new GRDC initiative
The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has issued a request for tender to establish a panel of potential service providers for key development and extension projects over the next three years.
The move will enhance the GRDC’s capacity to deliver timely and responsive solutions to local productivity issues as part of its pivotal role in boosting the profitability of northern growers.
Tender applications must be submitted by April 20, 2015 after which successful tenderers will be invited to be engaged under a panel deed to provide services to GRDC under a standing offer arrangement on an `as required’ basis.
The Regional Development and Communication Services Panel initiative complements the research, development and extension (RD&E) services that are currently provided through the northern Grower Solutions Groups – the Grain Orana Alliance (GOA, Northern Grower Alliance (NGA), Central Queensland Grower Solutions Group and the Coastal Grower Solutions Group.
They also complement existing and on-going extension projects such as the GRDC Updates and GrowNotes.
GRDC northern regional grower services manager Sharon O’Keeffe said the Regional Development and Communication Services Panel would comprise the GRDC’s preferred suppliers within the northern region and she invited research, agribusiness and extension providers and other relevant parties to submit a tender.
“The panel will provide the GRDC with a mechanism to continuously contract short-term (one to three years) local projects within its governance structure, giving GRDC the flexibility to address industry RD&E needs as they arise,” she said.
“In simple terms, this initiative provides the GRDC with a greater ability to act quickly on industry feedback regarding gaps in RD&E needs and help provide solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing northern growers.
“Over the next three years, the GRDC will invest in a range of short-term projects to help deliver on its overarching vision of a profitable and sustainable Australian grains industry.
“Small projects delivered by these investments will complement and be linked to larger projects driven by the GRDC Northern Panel.”
The term of the panel is three years with an option for an additional two years, at the GRDC’s discretion.
There is no upper limit on the number of successful tenderers provided they meet the selection criteria.
Once the panel is established, membership is closed unless the GRDC elects to again approach the open market to broaden the scope of an existing panel.
