GRDC talks grains at Goondiwindi next week
The two-day Update draws together some of Australia’s leading grains research scientists and hundreds of growers, advisors and industry representatives for a comprehensive insight into the latest findings from local, regional and national research projects.
The program incorporates keynote addresses from renowned scientists such as New South Wales Department of Primary Industries (DPI) senior pathologist Kevin Moore, Foundation for Arable Research (FAR) Australia managing director Nick Poole and Centre for Crop Disease Management program leader Fran Lopez-Ruiz as well as concurrent sessions on topics such as cereal agronomy, nutrition, disease and weeds.
With the GRDC’s northern region having experiencing a wide spectrum of seasonal conditions over the past 12 months, from flooding through to extreme temperatures and drought, keeping abreast of the latest agronomic recommendations and advice will be growers’ best chance of capitalising on production opportunities and managing risk during 2017.
GRDC Grower Services Manager - North Sharon O’Keeffe said the agronomic insights and recommendations offered throughout the two-day event would be invaluable to advisors and growers in planning for this year’s winter cropping season.
“GRDC Grains Research Updates are a one-stop-shop for new and updated information on leading industry research that’s ready to be applied in the paddock,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“The presentations are delivered by experts in their field who understand the varying regional production opportunities and constraints and can provide advice accordingly.
“Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during the Update sessions as well as during an early morning facilitated session on day two between 7:30am and 8:30am when crop nutrition and soil scientists will be available to discuss individual issues and ideas.
“The panel includes research industry identities such Mike Bell, Chris Guppy, David Lester, James Hagan and Richard Daniel.”
The Goondiwindi GRDC Grains Research Update will be held on March 7 and 8 at the Goondiwindi Community Centre. This will be followed by one-day Updates at Condamine on March 9 and Bellata on March 10.
