Grain growers from across southern New South Wales are invited to attend a Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Grains Research Update in Coolamon this week to hear the latest research to improve farming enterprise profitability ahead of the 2017 winter season.
The Update will be held at Coolamon Central School Hall on Thursday (March, 16).
The event will provide a platform for growers and advisors to discuss the latest research, technology and market development with leading industry professionals, with the aim of improving the profitability and productivity of the southern NSW grains industry.
Growers can expect to receive ‘farm-ready’ insights and recommendations, including crop nutrition suggestions based on nitrogen (N) efficiency from 2016 season, as well as management advice on optimising canola yield, tipped to be the ‘come back crop’ of 2017.
Discussion on management practices will also feature at the Update, including the relevance of tillage in farming systems, new technology to manage weed seed blowouts and issues and threats regarding canola and pulse diseases for the upcoming season.
The Update speakers include Jim Laycock from Incitec Pivot Fertilisers, Greg Condon from Grassroots Agronomy and NSW Department of Primary Industries representatives Rohan Brill, Mark Conyers and Kurt Lindback.
