Grain growers and advisers from across the Callide and Dawson Valleys gathered in Biloela this week to discuss recent research developments in areas such as weed management, soil and crop nutrition, agronomic management, pest control and grain storage.

The Grains Research Update was hosted by the Central Queensland Grower Solutions Group - an investment of the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) that helps coordinate research efforts aimed at improving the profitability of local cropping operations.

The Updates are premiere events in the northern grains industry calendar, enabling leading grain research scientists, agronomists, consultants and growers to collaborate on the practical adoption and potential productivity benefits of research investments.

Central Queensland Grower Solutions Group Chair Rod Collins said on-going research investment and extension was critical to raising the productivity bar on key summer and winter crops across the Central Queensland production belt.

“It is vitally important to communicate with the wider farming community about the progress and outcomes of research projects that tackle regionally relevant productivity constraints,” Mr Collins said.

“Updates provide an ideal forum for learning, sharing ideas and networking, all of which are precursors to successful and effective change.”
