South Australian grain growers considering which crop varieties to sow next season now have access to a useful resource to assist with their decision making.
The SA Research and Development Institute (SARDI) 2014 Sowing Guide provides growers with data and guidance on the most important selection criteria for varieties of wheat, barley, lupins, vetch, chickpeas, canola, oats, lentils, peas, triticale and beans.
SARDI senior scientist Rob Wheeler says the guide also includes information about Plant Breeder’s Rights and herbicide tolerance of cereal and pulse varieties. Mr Wheeler says the publication incorporates results from the National Variety Trials (NVT) program, an initiative of the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC).
Compiled by SARDI officers, the guide is sponsored by the SA Grain Industry Trust in association with Primary Industry and Regions SA (PIRSA) and the GRDC.
The resource has been mailed to SA growers and can also be viewed and downloaded via the GRDC website at www.grdc.com.au/SASowingGuide, as well as the SARDI website at www.sardi.sa.gov.au/crops/publications.
