The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) will host another of its successful Farm Business Updates in Clare next month.

The forum, following the Hart Field Site Group’s “Getting the Crop In” seminar on March 12, provides a unique opportunity for growers and advisers to learn from and network with leading industry professionals.

GRDC Southern Regional Panel chair Keith Pengilley says the Clare event will offer topical and practical advice on the key farm business issues facing grain producers from throughout the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and Adelaide Plains regions.

“Since their inception in 2011, the Farm Business Updates – an initiative of the GRDC Southern Regional Panel – have been extremely successful so GRDC is pleased to provide another opportunity for local growers to hear from a range of compelling speakers to enhance their knowledge and understanding,” Mr Pengilley said.

“Business decision-making has a direct influence on increasing farm-gate returns. The Farm Business Updates are a great opportunity for growers to discuss these fundamental aspects of their farming operations.”

Basil Doonan of Macquarie Franklin opens the day with a presentation on the skills and approaches that lead to successful, profitable farming systems.

David Heinjus from Rural Directions will address trends in farm business performance and “outline the stories behind the figures”, while consultant Peter Hooper will demonstrate the key business decisions that proved important as conditions changed in 2013 and he will outline the lessons growers can take into the coming season.

The day will be rounded out with a keynote presentation from former Australian Football League coach, elite athlete, media commentator and successful businessman Stan Alves OAM who will share his thoughts on achieving and maintaining success.

To be held at The Vine Christian Church, Main North Rd, Clare, the Farm Business Update will begin with lunch at 12.30pm and will conclude at 4.30pm.
