Yield technology breakthroughs in focus at Corowa
Innovations underpinning yield improvements in Canada’s canola industry, along with grain yield optimisation and in-crop herbicide research and developments (R&D), will headline a series of topics at the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) grains research Update in Corowa on February 19.
Grain growers and advisors are invited to attend the forum, to be held at the Corowa RSL Club, where they can listen to and discuss the latest in industry R&D.
GRDC Southern Regional Panel member Geoff McLeod says the Update will feature a range of speakers sharing insights on a variety of topics to help farmers be at the forefront of technological breakthroughs in the industry.
“As new R&D comes to fruition, it’s important grain growers are aware and informed of ways they can improve their offering. GRDC’s grains research Updates are an excellent way for growers to not only hear from experts about recent advances but also discuss these in relation to their own farming systems,” Mr McLeod said.
Malcolm Morris from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will open the Update, highlighting recent physiological and agronomical outcomes from Canadian science that target canola productivity and underpin yield improvements.
Outlining ways in which growers can optimise grain yield and grazing potential of dual purpose crops will be John Kirkegaard from the CSIRO. Following this, Cropfacts’ Harm van Rees will discuss how leading farmers have closed the yield gap and the implications on productivity growth.
CSIRO researcher Mark Peoples will compare crop response to legumes and bagged nitrogen fertiliser. In another session, Dr Peoples will highlight the impact of rotation options on weed control and profit.
Cassie Schefe from Riverine Plains Inc will provide a research update and Dr Peoples will discuss the results from local trials.
Chris Preston from the University of Adelaide will conclude the Update where he will share recent insights with in-crop herbicide research, including propyzamide and clethodim developments.
The grains research Update will be between 9.00am and 3.00pm, with catering provided.
