Farm business topics up for discussion at Port Lincoln

The business of farming will be the focus of a Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) forum in Port Lincoln next month.
The Farm Business Update on March 13 will provide a unique opportunity for grain growers and advisers to learn from and network with leading industry professionals.
GRDC Southern Regional Panel member Mark Stanley, of Port Lincoln, encourages local growers to set aside half a day to attend the event which will deliver relevant and practical advice on key farm business issues.
“The GRDC recognises that there is a lot more to successful crop production than sowing, growing and harvesting – what happens away from the paddocks is just as important,” Mr Stanley said.
“Understanding and appreciating the business side of any grain-growing operation is essential so I urge all local growers to come along to this Farm Business Update where they will hear from experts on a range of topics.”
The program will begin with John Francis from Holmes Sackett exploring the topic of how to make good farm expansion decisions. Mr Francis will speak about the factors to consider when contemplating increasing the farm size.
Phil O’Callaghan from ORM Pty Ltd will look at what can be done to manage farm costs and build strength to create a buffer against poor seasons, while John Gladigau of Collaborative Farming Australia will discuss the creation of economies of scale through collaborative farming models.
Facilitator and communicator Andrew Bayly will offer tips and advice on tools to use for effective business communication.
To be held at the Port Lincoln Hotel, the Farm Business Update will begin at 9.00am and conclude at 1.00pm, with catering provided.
