Top dressing crops in focus at Finley workshop

A Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) workshop will be held in Finley next month to investigate top dressing crops in irrigated farming systems. Designed for agronomists, advisers, consultants and growers, the workshop will be on August 10 at the Finley Football and Netball Club.
Speakers will include John Angus, Adjunct Professor at Charles Sturt University and Honorary Research Fellow with CSIRO Agriculture; John Lacy, an irrigated agricultural consultant from Finley; Robert Norton, International Plant Nutrition Institute Regional Director, Australia and New Zealand; Charlie Walker, Technical and Development Manager, Incitec-Pivot Limited; Luke Gaynor, Leader in Southern Dryland Cropping Systems, NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI); Mark Conyers, Principal Research Scientist, NSW DPI; Rob Fisher, Irrigated Cropping Council chief executive; Andrew Whitlock, Executive Director of Precision Agriculture; and GRDC Southern Regional Panel member Geoff McLeod, of Finley.
They will discuss management options to increase yields, assessing crops to determine future nitrogen requirements, comparison of nitrogen rates for different management systems, strategies to minimise crop losses and product selection. Soil moisture, temperature, soil type, ground cover, irrigated regimes and fertiliser types will also be considered.
A field walk and panel session will follow the workshop.
