Canola management the focus of Launceston workshop

A Grains Research and Development Corporation-funded workshop in Launceston in March will provide Tasmania’s agronomists, advisers, consultants and growers with advice and support for improved management of canola for grazing and grain production. The workshop on March 21 will offer the latest information and technical insights to enhance participants’ understanding of canola agronomy, variety selection and crop management.

Speakers include GRDC Southern Regional Panel Chair and Conara farmer Keith Pengilley; Tina Acuna, Senior Lecturer in Crop Science at the School of Land and Food, Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, University of Tasmania; CSIRO Team Leader Dr John Kirkegaard; Dr Penny Riffkin, Senior Research Scientist with Agriculture Victoria; Dr Steve Marcroft of Marcroft Grains Pathology; Trent Potter, Director of Yeruga Crop Research; and Annieka Paridaen, Project Manager for Grain & Graze 3.

They will discuss the benefits of growing winter canola in Tasmania, optimising canola profitability and water use efficiency, nutrient input decisions in the high rainfall zone, as well as canola disease and agronomy.

The workshop, from 8.15am to 3.15pm, will be at the Country Club Tasmania at Prospect Vale.
