The 2016 Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Wagga Wagga Farm Business Update has changed its format this year to better reflect the challenges and opportunities facing grain growers in southern New South Wales.

The Update, being held on Wednesday August 17 at Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga will begin with a scan of the regional farm business environment, reviewing input costs, commodity prices and capital costs.

GRDC grower services manager – north Sharon O’Keeffe says the Wagga Wagga Farm Business Update will begin with a scan of the regional farm business environment.

GRDC grower services manager – north Sharon O’Keeffe said the overview will be tested against the local experience offered by each table of delegates.

“We are not aiming to tell local growers what their situation is, but instead provide timely, helpful discussion topics with an aim to strengthening grain businesses across southern NSW,” she said.

“There will be a mix of presentations available and delegates will pick which two they are most interested in, which will ensure growers debate and discuss areas relevant to them.

“Growers will also hear from well known speaker Mick Keogh on the topic AusExit – what will Britain leaving the EU mean for our island nation,” Ms O’Keeffe said.

Two facilitated sessions will run concurrently, allowing delegates to debate and discuss their chosen topics.

Each of these sessions is designed to use the principles of social media - open exchange and fast paced discussion with the aim of making the most of the experience and expertise within a combined group of farm business advisors and successful grain growers.

Topics will include tweaking your enterprise selection for more profit and less risk, when you should upgrade your machinery and managing farm business data smarter.

“After lunch the second round of facilitated sessions will be held, before delegates reassemble for the presentation of session outcomes,” Ms O’Keeffe said.

“This process means all delegates will hear a summary of all the sessions and contribute to the Farm Business Update wrap up and key learnings session.

“The GRDC Farm Business Update provides a unique forum for growers and advisers to learn from and network with leading industry professionals and it is always a great day out,” she said.

Growers interested in attending should contact David Smith by email or by calling 03 5441 6176.
