Planning for the 2016 harvest, driving profits and managing inputs, land value trends, big data and investing in labour efficiency – these will be among the topics on the agenda at a Grains Research and Development (GRDC) Farm Business Update in Horsham on September 7.
GRDC Southern Regional Panel member Kate Wilson, of Hopetoun, says the Farm Business Update will be of enormous value to growers from throughout western Victoria.
“The 2016 cropping season is looking very positive for local growers which means they have much to consider in terms of marketing their grain, investing in their businesses and planning for the future,” Ms Wilson said.
“The GRDC Farm Business Update in Horsham offers growers and their advisers an opportunity to hear from a range of experts on these important topics relevant to their farm enterprises.”
An initiative of the GRDC Southern Regional Panel, the Farm Business Updates are designed to help growers improve knowledge and understanding of the business issues around crop production and inform decisions to maintain or improve profits.
The Update program will begin with Brad Knight from GeoCommodities outlining the status of grain markets and what this means for local growers marketing grain this year.
Matt Bryant from AgProfit will discuss the profit drivers and guides to manage costs, while Greg Kuchel from Rural Bank and Rural Finance will delve into land value trends and their likely continuation.
ORM’s David Bone will offer his thoughts on using “big data” to save the Australian family farm, and James Hillcoat from Rural Directions will present on labour efficiency and making the best use of your team.
To be held at the Horsham Golf Club, the Farm Business Update starts at 9am and concludes at 1pm with lunch.A detailed program can be obtained by visiting the GRDC Update Dates page and searching for Horsham, or by contacting ORM on 03 5441 6176 or email email@example.com.
