A masterclass in mixed farming beckons Tas producers

Tasmania’s mixed farmers are invited to be involved in a unique initiative designed to support them in their efforts to optimise production and profits from their farming systems.

A Mixed Farming Masterclass at Campbell Town on May 23 will bring together some of Australia’s leading mixed farmers, researchers and advisers who will discuss and share the latest information and advice on livestock and fodder management.

A Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) investment, supported by Macquarie Franklin and Ag Excellence Alliance, the Mixed Farming Masterclass will enable participants to join a network of leading mixed farming thinkers in their local area, gain access to Australia’s leading mixed farming researchers and advisers, and gain access to tools to use on their farms.

The program will feature the following topics and speakers:

  • Animal health considerations when grazing crops – Bruce Jackson, independent veterinary consultant
  • Grazing dual purpose crops to maximise grain production and liveweight gain – Cam Nicholson, Nicon Rural Services
  • The quality and uses of grass seed straw – Jason Lynch, Macquarie Franklin
  • Feed budgeting in mixed farming businesses – Jason Lynch, Macquarie Franklin
  • The four main profit drivers of a mixed farming business – Jim Cuming, Macquarie Franklin.

The free-of-charge event, with morning tea and lunch provided, will be at The Grange, Campbell Town, from 10am to 3.30pm. Registration is essential for catering purposes.
