The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has announced the appointment of a new regional manager in Western Australia.
GRDC western grower services manager Roger States will facilitate the regional adaptation of GRDC’s research and development, to speed the delivery of research outcomes to growers in the western region.
GRDC western regional panel chairman Peter Roberts said Mr States would help identify regional research, development and extension (RD&E) needs, manage the regional delivery of information, oversee regionally specific research and promote the GRDC’s products and services.
"He will also maintain and strengthen links between the GRDC western regional panel, researchers, advisers and growers," Mr Roberts said.
Before his appointment to the GRDC, Mr States worked for a number of years in the fields of crop protection and agronomy, based in WA.
Most recently, he was responsible for product development and technical support with crop protection company Sipcam Pacific Australia.
Mr States said in his new role with the GRDC, he would work closely with growers and industry representatives to ensure that RD&E investments resulted in profitable practice changes on-farm.
"Collaborating with WA’s GRDC Regional Cropping Solutions Networks (RCSNs) to identify RD&E priorities is an important part of my role, and I have already attended RCSN meetings held this month," he said.
"The GRDC RCSNs – which have operated in WA in recent seasons – are playing an important role in validating priorities determined by the GRDC western regional panel and ensuring that western investments are focussed on local grower needs."
"They also invest funding into short-term, low cost activities identified by the RCSNs to overcome barriers and create the desired practice change."
More information about the GRDC RCSNs is available.
Mr States will attend the 2015 Agribusiness Crop Updates, supported by the GRDC and the Department of Agriculture and Food (DAFWA), to be held at Crown Perth on February 24 and 25.
He welcomes contact from growers and industry representatives, and can be reached on firstname.lastname@example.org or 0427 565 780.
