Grain resource can assist growers during harvest

Author: Natalie Lee | Date: 01 Dec 2015

Information is available to help Western Australian growers effectively manage grain retained for seed that is harvested following wet conditions.

The GRDC Retaining Seed Fact Sheet provides information about weather damaged grain, seed-borne diseases and their impact on germination, and management from harvest through to storage, handling and seeding.

It can assist growers in determining whether grain is viable for sowing and what is a suitable and effective seed management program

The fact sheet emphasises that wet grain is vulnerable to poor germination, low vigour and degradation during storage and handling and that, ideally, growers should retain seed from grain harvested before rain where possible.

You can download and view the Retaining Seed Fact Sheet on the GRDC website.
