This report outlines some of the local research, development and extension (RD&E) priorities identified by the grain grower, adviser and researcher members of the GRDC Grower Solutions Groups (GSGs), operating across the northern grain-growing region of Australia

Executive Summary

This report presents the priority issues that the Grower Solution Groups (GSGs) identified for the 2013-2014 investment cycle, and outline the actions taken by the GRDC in response to each priority issue.  The document also provides an overview of the GRDCs investment planning process for grains R&D and how grain growers and the GSGs contribute to that process.

For 2013-2014, more than 450 growers and advisers were engaged with the northern region GSGs identified 48 priority issues that they believe require RD&E investment.  

Among the issues identified by the GSGs for the 2013-2014 investment cycle were:

  • Canola nutrition
  • Canola desiccation
  • Windmill grass management
  • Grass-weed management using residual herbicides
  • Windrow burning for weed control
  • Residual herbicides- efficacy against grass weeds
  • Effect of rainfall on double-knock herbicide efficacy
  • Yellow spot in wheat
