Consultants to review GRDC governance
GroundCover™ Issue: 109
GRDC and its grower representative organisation Grain Producers Australia (GPA) have announced that independent consultancy Marsden Jacob has been appointed to review the governance structure of the GRDC.
GRDC chair Richard Clark says the review aims to ensure the most effective GRDC framework to deliver benefits for the future of the Australian grains industry.
“The board wants to make sure that we have the best structural model in place now and in the future,” Mr Clark says.
“This industry-led review seeks to ensure the GRDC has a governance structure that delivers robust, accountable and commercial RD&E to levy payers in a changing operating environment,” he says.
Overseeing the review of the GRDC’s governance structure, which has not changed for 20 years, is a steering committee comprising representatives from key grains industry organisations. The committee is chaired by GPA director Terry Enright.
Mr Enright says the review is expected to consult widely with members of the Australian grains industry, particularly growers, using a range of mechanisms.
“It is essential that all industry players help to inform this review,” he says.
Apart from analysing options for the GRDC’s framework, the consultants will also examine issues and opportunities to help increase international and private investment in RD&E, Mr Enright says.
The review is due to be finalised in June 2014.
