Students at Victoria's Joint Centre for Crop Improvement have their feet firmly on the ground. Under the Centre's innovative training programs, many of them work in country locations on projects which complement applied research and development programs. This, together with industry events such as field days and technical symposia, gives them first-hand knowledge of grains industries.

Agriculture Victoria and the University of Melbourne established the Centre as a cooperative venture in December 1993. Graingrowers through the GRDC are a major funding source.

Thirty-nine scientists in crop improvement, 38 postgraduate students and six research fellows now belong to the Centre. GRDC Junior Research Fellows are among them and Ground Cover features two Fellows here.
