Spraying canola - with canola oil
GroundCover™ Issue: 28
A Victorian company is marketing a spray adjuvant whose main component - about 87 per cent - is canola oil.
The company says its product, called HASTEN, is successfully used with both herbicides and insecticides and is readily available throughout Australia. It claims that unique formulation enhances the effectiveness of post-emergent herbicides by combining the epicuticular wax and cuticle-penetrating activity of esterfied canola oil with the wetting and spreading characteristics of non-ionic surfactants.
The makers report that a number of multinational companies have registered HASTEN on their labels and say that it may also be used in place of non-ionic surfactants or other oil-based adjuvants when permitted by the label.
