Prime hard heads further south

Five years of research have shown that it is possible for the higher-priced Prime Hard wheat grade to be produced in SA — a grade currently restricted to Queensland and NSW. (Recent reports in Ground Cover have detailed the profitable spread o f Prime Hard into southern NSW and Victoria.)

The research has produced crop management guidelines for three potential production areas — upper Eyre Peninsula, northern Mallee and the mid-north. Heading the research team is Hugh Reimers of Adelaide University with colleagues from the SA Research and Development Institute and the Minnipa and Loxton Research Centres.
