The $$ value of change (Excerpted from a report by Mike Krause, Applied Economic Solutions)

Information from the last three years' focus paddock trials shows that profits can be improved by cropping more intensively (in mallee country).

The gross margin analysis (gross income from an enterprise less the variable costs from that enterprise) from 25 focus paddocks in Victoria over the last three seasons indicates the average for continuous cropping is $154/ha compared with traditional rotations of $93/ha.

Seasonal variations appear to cause variations in income for both continuous cropping and traditional rotations.
