State winners show TOPCROP progress
STATE WINNERS and national finalists for 2001 show just how far the TOPCROP program has progressed since it began in 1995.
Supported by growers and the Federal Government through the GRDC, the TOPCROP program initially set out to assist growers to monitor and measure crop performance. In its early years it was all about the agronomic basis of crop production.
Now TOPCROP is a major grains industry improvement program which helps growers boost production, profits and sustainability through on-farm trials, crop monitoring, benchmarking and group discussions.
Winning the $2,000 state TOPCROP awards is 'icing on the cake' for a number of groups that are seeing real on-farm benefits from their TOPCROP involvement.
State winners, who feature below, automatically contest the national award, announced at the TOPCROP national meeting at Toowoomba in March. Ground Cover brings you some of their trial results. As you'll see, nitrogen management looms large in all states.
