A new computer software package can help growers calculate lime requirements for a specific soil pH or nitrogen and phosphorus quantities to achieve target yields. The Lime and Nutrient Balance (LNB) software package provides graingrowers and advisers with a simple and user-friendly tool to help them manage soil fertility. It requires users to input details of the particular crop or animal product, soil type, soil test information and type and amount of fertiliser. The software accounts for nutrients removed in production, leaching losses and soil fixation and uses monthly weather records supplied with the package or by the user. The package's nutrient budget component is designed to indicate the nutrient-related sustainability of the system through a 10-year crop and pasture sequence.

Cost is $49 plus postage and handling.
